Pros and Cons of owning a pet

Every human once in their lifetime has been attracted to the idea of owning a pet. Having a pet at home is like an incentive. Had a bad day? Your pet will always be there to make your mood jolly. Had a long day at work? Your pet will be waiting to cuddle with you. The love and adoration a pet can provide you are unparallel.

But, when it comes to taking care of a pet, it is not as easy as it seems. Owning a pet comes with a lifetime commitment to taking care of them. Almost like owning a baby. Before adopting a pet, it is important that one weighs its pros and cons.

Here are some of the advantages of owning a pet at home:

1.    Relaxing benefit

With pets around you, there is relaxation around you. The environment instantly becomes a warm positive one. You feel better about yourself. The enthusiastic wagging tail, or the jumps of joy, are sure to become the highlight of your day.

2. Help in staying fit

Owning a pet means you have to be active with them. They are always looking out for someone to play with them. Running around with them becomes a part of your daily routine. With getting their general chores done, you get fitter as you get to move around more often unintentionally.

3. Improvement in mental health

It's scientifically proven that having a pet around you helps you in maintaining good mental health. Pets have an amazing trait to help those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder to those ones with depression. It takes away all your stresses and transfers their positivity to you.

While there are many advantages to owning a pet, it also comes with some disadvantages that one must go through before adopting a pet.

1.    Financial Responsibility

Having a pet requires regular visits to the pet trainer and vets around you. From buying their food to their clothes, a lot of expenses happen once you own a pet. Buying toys for them also becomes a part of the expense. They need regular grooming services.

2. Schedule problems

Once you adopt a pet, be it any pet, your schedule will have to be according to theirs. Their sleep time, and eating time, of it, will guide your routine. Just like with babies, pets have their own routine and we have to adjust accordingly. Sometimes pets wake up as early as 5 am for a walk or urination. For this, you have no option but to go with them.

3. Losing them

Every pet, like humans, has a lifetime of years. For eg, most breeds of dogs live for 12-15 human years. So adopting a pet means heartbreak after a certain point. Once you own a pet, they become part of your family, and your everyday life and losing them is not something you would want to go through.

Hence, one must always go through all the pros and cons properly before making the decision of having a pet at home. A pet is one of the best things you can gift yourself but at the same time, you must know what all it takes to have one.
